Fuel Injector Cleaner -Marine Engines ?

Anyone had any experience using fuel injector cleaner in marine engines? Probably have to add when the tanks are very low in order to get the concentration recommended (like in your car). Would it be good to use for preventative maintenance?

We were talking about Marvel Mystery Oil Gasoline Additive in a recent thread. It is a very unique product as it is said to work by the guys on Bob's forum. It is both a solvent and a lubricant and will:

-Clean and lubricate injectors
-Lubricate valves and keep them free of carbon deposits
-Free up and prevent sticking piston rings
-Decreases the volatility of gas a bit and increases the "octane rating" by 1 or possibly 2?
-It is not as flammable of a solvent used in automobiles like Gumout which may exert fumes into the bilge etc.

If your injectors are very dirty you may need to get an injector cleaning kit. You would disconnect the fuel line and replace it with the line provided in the kit which then allows pure Gumout liquid to be sucked in while the engine is running. You let it suck near a quart in then shut off the engine and let the Gumout soak for a 1/2 hour and then replace the fuel line.

You may want a mechanic to do it as the kits are not cheap.

The MMO will gradually clean things if they are not heavily loaded. It is good prevention as well.

Most auto stores do..Autozone..Murray's..maybe Walmart.

Be sure the container is labeled MMO "gasoline additive".

Use about a quart per 100 gallons of gas...then over time you can taper back to a quart per 125-150 gallons.

The MMO gas additive only should cost $3.99/qt or less.

Mix a little for your lawn equiptment..cars etc...many use it and swear by it. It also provides a contribution to stabilizing gas and helping to reduce varnish formation over time.

Another product that I get from my CarQuest Auto dealer is Sea Foam. It is suposed to do all those same things. I put on can in each tank when I put the boat up for the winter.
