Bravo alignment with Offshore mounts?
OK here we go again.....new mills are in rigged and almost ready to fire. I go to put the drives on and no dice....I can just get the threads in the case and major stoppage.....I really cant adjust anything with the solid mounts,Tinkerboater is running his alignment tool over tonight for me to check them any ideas?

Re: Bravo alignment with Offshore mounts?
Is this a Bravo type setup Dyno?

yep...

Re: Bravo alignment with Offshore mounts?
If the drives came off easily, then it's probaly not the offshore mounts. Do you have the spring/fiber washer in correct? Easy to knock them off when the motors swinging. In that case back of motor would be down 1/8" and screw up alignment. I assume you have drive in gear so that you can rotate drive shaft to match splines in coupler.
If non of that is the case remove front engine mount bolts and try putting shims in between mount and engine. Either way I don't think it's agood idea to put drives on without using alignment tool at any time. Good luck |
Re: Bravo alignment with Offshore mounts?
Also, if back bolts to gimbal housing not tight this can be cause of problem. My offshore mount has not changed alignment over the year Ive had it. Drive and motor out twice.
By shims i mean about 1/16" pieces of metal sheet. Then you can drill them to match mount bolt pattern. |

I put the back bolts in with an impact, the fibre washers and springs are in...witht the offshore Gil mounts you really cant shim them.....

Re: Bravo alignment with Offshore mounts?
Dyno,
Pretty sure there is a torque figure for those bolts. I use a half inch rachet moderatly tight. Correct order is bolt, big washer then metal spacer, thru rubber mount in Flywheel housing then fiber washer with spring inside to gimbal housing. Spring can end up sitting on fiber washer. Metal washer in wrong place etc. Guilty of getting this wrong myself  , so I check order twice before final bolt down. |
Re: Bravo alignment with Offshore mounts?
Cant find pick of gil offshore mount, is it like mercruiser one?

Re: Bravo alignment with Offshore mounts?
I think you can shim, Of course you can only go up with front of motor. Pain in the but. Shim idea is to find out if front of motor has sagged. If you get good line up with them you may have to drill bolt holes in mount little larger so you can get bolts in with spacers. Or loosen/ take out the bolts where mounts bolt to angle brackets on stringers get alignment and drill some new holes.
I find it hard to beleive that you have lost alignment on two motors. Have you changed couplers or universal joints? Even a different trailer could cause a problem . |
Re: Bravo alignment with Offshore mounts?
same couplers, same u joints, same mounts, Tinkerboater is going to bring his alignment tool over tonight that way I know where to start.
|
Re: Bravo alignment with Offshore mounts?
Did you put the mounts on the same side they were before. The L angles are drilled to align the front of the engine. Subtle changes can have big effects.
Use an alignment tool. See what needs to be changed. You can make a 3 hole or slotted shim to put between the mount and engine if it's minor. If major changes are needed, redrill the L angles. Gary |
Re: Bravo alignment with Offshore mounts?
New flywheel housings? The latest version does not use spring washer.

Re: Bravo alignment with Offshore mounts?
I see you got it fixed although I can't imagine Foul being any help :D
Can you let us know what you had to do to take care of the problem? |

Re: Bravo alignment with Offshore mounts?
I just took all the bolts lose replaced two of them with a tapered pin jumped up and down on them a couple times and bingo! engine aligned. That was the port motor the starboard just needed the gimbal bearing straightened out with the alingment tool.
