Sequential Turbo won't kick in
:( The boat has twin Detroit Diesel MTU 2000 16V's in a 61ft, 2004 Viking. They are 2000 HP when they work. The port engine turbo kicks in at 1800 RPM's and then flips off. They have changed all of the fuel pumps and injectors, replaced the fuel, changed all of the filters replaced the props, repainted the bottom and moved the EPU from one side to the other. They have been working on it for 29 days and can't figure out what is wrong. Any ideas.

are the waste gates on the turbo's computer controlled?

Everything is controlled by the computers but they moved the one from the starboard side that is running fine to the port side and we still have the problem.

whats happening? is the wastegate opening on the motor letting the boost escape? if so the unit that holds the waste gate closed to create boost must not be responding to the signal from the computer...sound reasonable? what have they tried so far???

Minor Jones,you might start at the air cleaner intake and work to the turbo,through the turbo,through the plenum to the inner cooler,through the inner cooler,through the intake manifold and gasket to the heads.You will be looking for restriction such as a grease rag,etc.While you are at the turbo give the vanes a visual ,spin it and feel for end play.Subject to engine hours,idle time,oil change intervals,the turbo may be out tolerance. After your comfortable with the intake side, check the exhaust side from one end to the other.

As a result of this post I have been contacted by a Marine Service Engineer at MTU Detroit Diesel. It doesn't get any better than that. Many thanks to everyone. It has been down for 31 days now. I will keep you posted on our progress. Minor
