So this whole thing sounds like the result of a dealer giving you "a bait and switch oil" or a mistake.

Re: Oil Analysis Question

Never used Amsoil---only used Mobil-1 15-50.
Going to get some v-twin tomorrow-- what filter should I try ?
The hole deal really sucks--hope my motor will be ok--what do you think ?

If it was just the result of a one time use of a questionable oil...probably fine....if the next analysis comes back with lots of wear...it was probably from an onging condition...

If you are buying off the shelf go with a M-1..Fram HP...A/C... Purolator Premium Plus is supposed to be good too.

Finally got to the bottom of the real story. You were correct, the oil tested was not synthetic at all. It turns out one of the mechanics who was pissed at the owner of the company took the wrong oil sample to be tested. He told one of the other tecks this story after one to many beers. The owner then fired him, and told me the last serviceing was on the house & the next one also. I'm now using Amsoil 20-50. Seems to work great. Thanks for all your help on this subject. I feel alot better now that the oil was not in my engine & my mechanic did always put the Mobil-1 in as he stated he did. Just thopught I would bring you up to speed on the problem

I would not believe this story until you verify it without the mech. involved! Spend a little extra money & get your own oil sample done. Then you can believe or not. I would say you have a 50-50 chance this story is true.

Wow, that's quite a story and it could of ended with you pulling two good motors apart for a freshen up. :(

I bought 12 quarts of v-twin/4 quarts of m1 gearlube and a m-1 filter yesterday for about $150.00. Easy to see where an easy $100 could be made if there was an unscrupulous mech/dealer involved.

Re: Oil Analysis Question

That was a very low ZDDP conventional oil that may have costed a buck a quart. Your oil analysis did not show a TBN. Why is that? I wonder what viscosity the oil was as well as most 20W-50's have higher levels.

The whole situation sounds puzzling.

LS if you want I can hook you up with an ExxonMobil distributor in your area. Let me know.

What the hell. Here's the greater Florida directory. I know one of the owners of Young in Dade county.
