Broken ears on Bravo I props anyone?
My friend has a 33 Baja Outlaw w/496's on Bravo's. He's running the Bravo I prop i'm guessing about 27 pitch We were on a local poker run yesterday when he broke his 5th prop in 2 years. All of the props have come on the starboard side. Each prop is missing 1 blade and all 5 props are broken in the EXACT same place. By this I mean they are all broken next to the Bravo I stamp.
Any suggestions on what this would be? P.S. The drives are turning out. |

I can tell you that is common place on single engine cats. My buddy has lost 3 in 2 seasons. Bad Mercury, Bad.

A good place to start when you have a problem like this is to llok in front of hte drives and props. Is there anything that could disturb the water flow to the drive/prop?
Another possible cause is the height of the drives. If they are mounted too high the constant prop slapping can lead to broekn blades. What kind of performance numbers is the boat getting, WOT speed, WOT rpm, and drive gear ratio? An excessive slip could indicate a drive mounted too high. Matt |

My guess would be that for some reason, that drive is cavitatingor surfacing slightly when he is at speed.
