Rough Running 454 Mag?????help
CFD5 is down at lake cumberland with his apache and is having a hard time with one of his motors. The symptom is it will start and run fine for a second then run rough like it is out of fuel.
He has done: new fuel pump switch carb from other motor switch ignition from other motor inspected for water in fuel Any other ideas? Thanks! |
Re: Rough Running 454 Mag?????help
Has he checked the timing? When was the last time he changed plugs? If it is indeed running out of fuel it could be an obstruction in his tank pick-up. Good luck.

Craig Thanks! Him and Hadley are down there wrenching on it now. They changed the plugs and have run fuel out of the "out" side of the fuel pump to make sure of psi. They/we are stumped! Oh yeah...the houseboat generator pooped out also! :( |

Maybe it jumped time. Take a compression check. How old is the motor?

Sounds like you've covered all the bases on the fuel issue. Did you clean the screen at the intake of the carbs? Those carbs sometimes get clogged right there. Also you could switch coils to test them and switch ignition modules. Do one at a time so you can narrow it down. My guess would be the ignition module.

Do a leak down test ,It will tell you what kind of shape the motor is in, then move on to step two. Scratch your head.
