Help - Reverse problem - Outdrive guys

I had to replace the driveshaft due to U-joints exploding. After puting it all back together, I now can shift to neutral and forward fine. When I shift to reverse, it keeps popping in and out of gear.

I disconnected the shift cable and maually shifted it, it does the same thing. What should I check next.

Why does it pop in and out of reverse - is it an adjustment or blown clutch?

When the U joints exploded it may have streched the shift cable that goes to the drive.

I replaced the entire transom assembly with a TA from an HP500 so it is a newer shift cable.
