how much oil does a 496HO use?
 

I'm burning about 1/2 quart every 5 hours. Running fairly hard, probably a good 1 to 1.5 hours of each 5 hours is at WOT. My motor has low hours, around 100. Checkmate 270 Convincor. Runs very smooth, no problems.

My 496 has about 30 hours on it. Your numbers sound in line with mine. I'd say a quart every 10 hours. That's the same as what my 454 used too.

Just wanted to know if this sounds about right, thought maybe the new 496's burnt a little less.

454 mags.... just added 1 quart to each after 12 hours, brought both to a strong FULL on the dipstick. Figure both are using same amount, I'd be worried if one took more than the other.

Not uncommon for big blocks to burn a little oil....
