Re: Exhaust ?????

The dry exhaust is still jacketed. The diff. is the water never mixes with the exhaust in the tailpipe, it is dumped through a seperate tube out the tailpipe.

What Kind Of Horsepower Advantage Are There To Running Dry Pipes???

Re: Exhaust ?????

I don't know about HP advantage, but Big cams would be more susceptible to reversion. The dry pipes prevent that. But they are loud.

I just switched to full dry CMI's. I can say from first hand experience that it is too loud. You wont believe the difference that a little water would make to kill some noise. I ended up adding GGB extreme muffflers. Now I have the advantage of full dry pipes with a reasonable amount of noise. BTW, I have an N.A. 540

Good question. Water definately causes a restriction in the exhaust flow. Exactly how much I don't know but back to back dyno testing would provide the results. Like Stormrider said, the main reson for dry exhaust is the to eliminate the chance of water reversion due to cam overlap.

Quick story and not to hijack, but my friend just redid his 1975 28 magnum.
He's got twin small blocks w/ dry exhaust. He just got stopped by the police due to this reason and being too loud.
Check454, he was stopped by Paddie Maggies, and the cop said thru hulls(i guess meaning dry pipes) is illegal in NY.(???)

GGB, what muffler system could he buy to reduce the dBs. He's got 3" pipes.

Re: Exhaust ?????

We can put a 3" inlet on the Cyclone clamp-on. The muffler would just slide over his tip/tailpipe and clamp down.
