HELP with SBC total timing
My boat has a pair of 350 cu in chevys, stock 270 hp. Have several Volvo spec sheets showing different timing settings. Several show max 23-24 degrees at 3000 rpm. Timing marks in balancer also indicate 24 degrees. Several spec sheets show maximim of 28 - 30 degrees at 3000 rpm. The 23-24 settings seems way too low. Is 28-30 safe for stock engines with cast pistons and stock fuel and ignition systems?

Come on guys, a little help here.

Re: HELP with SBC total timing
28-30 seems low to me. I would probably run them a total of 34 - 36. At what RPM is the timing all in? Check it at 3000 and 3500 to verify it still isn't climbing.

Re: HELP with SBC total timing
I think that the best timing for that application would be right around 32-34 degree's. I wouldn't worry to much about timing at idle either, I would worry about total timing. I think you would check that around 4000 rpm. Should be good to go.

Re: HELP with SBC total timing
Have To Agree With John Should Be 32 -34 Total Advance At About 3400, You Need To Use A Digital Advance Timing Lite And Work Off The 0 Mark Set The Lite At 32 Or 34.....john You Are The Man!!!!
