Is 80 psi okay

I just put M1 Gold cap 15-50w and now my oil pressure is just under 80 psi when I run over 3000 rpm. At Idle it is fine at 45 or so.

I have a 502 with a stock cam and crane gold roller rockers is this okay or should I change it out with a different weight to bring the oil pressure down?

Most oil pumps start to bypass some pressure around 72-75psi. You may want to verify your guage with a mechanical one. I have one in the filter housing on the inlet side. The dash reads 5psi higher than the mech guage.

You are probably OK

Custom29scarab-Just curious, but what weight oil were you using and what pressures were you seeing?

Which side of the oil filter are you measuring? If the filter is clogged you may have high pressure on the inlet side and next to none on the outlet. Melling BB pumps bypass at 75 psi, which is what the Formula motors always ran at on the filter inlet side, about 3-5 psi less on the outlet sides.

Lmarth-I don't know what the previous owner had in it I will try to find out.

Greg I just put a new K&N (hp3200 I believe) filter on replacing an AC/Delco. I will have to look at my lines and find out where the reading is coming from. I have an external mounted filter coming off of my cooler.
