eXternal Steering-innie vs outtie

I have noticed on boats with external hydrolic steering that some times the rams are mounted between the drives and some boats the rams are mounted on the outside of the drives. Is there a preference for strength, performance - function or is it based on limitations in the transom area?

Thank you,

Simply depends on what you have room for. Performance is no difference.
