Drive fluid over flow

Last weekend I was on a long fast run, about 20 miles +
WOT the whole way. Was getting a real nice consistant 84-85 out of hte new props.
After stopping for the 3rd card stop I noticed burning oil smell.
Opened the hatch and found the port drive fluid container over full and spilling onto the manifold :(
Idled out of everyone's way and shuut down to investigate.
Fluid was back down to normal level ???
Well, did hte same run, not as hard and it did it again.
The time was less then 3 minutes for the fluid to drop to normal level--minus a small amount that over flowed.
Never did it again.
Could it have over heated?
I drained the fluid once home and it was still a nice blue green color with NO water in it.
I am goign to be taking the drive shower off and flushing the tube out. I am thinking I injested weeds into this

Re: Drive fluid over flow

check inside the cap of the plastic resolver. it should have a rubber gasket in it. this will seal the bottle so it will not vent out when you are running.

Re: Drive fluid over flow

There are two seals to look at, the seal ring in the cap its round and black and actually seals that cap to the resevoir and the other is the orange rubber piece thats plugs the vent hole in the center of the cap. A drive can not get hot enough to cuase an overflow without other serious damage occuring that would have been pretty noticeable. I dont think you can get either of the sels seperstly though you have to buy a complete cap but it's not much money.

Resons for drive resavor bottle to over flow:

1) bad seal
2) bad bearing or broken pinion shaft
3) When drive was fill it was not filled to the bottle (will give you an air pocket that will burp out and overflow the bottle)
