Trashed XR lower on rock ledge- what to look for???

Well, I've been running this lake for 10+ yrs, thought I knew where to be careful when the corp drops the lake to sell hydroelectric power....

Found a ledge:( ,but everyone is fine and the boat still moves on it's own. Very minor keel rash and an impacted lower on the XR.

My 5 Blade hydro is pretty rashed, all blades intact, shaft spins freely with no wobble (to the eye). The nose has a nice flat spot, skeg is about 1/2 gone. No oil leak, water pressure dropped about 2 lbs, I presume from the munched nose (side pickups are fine).

I'll likely file an insurance claim, want to make sure I catch all the damage. I've got an ITS setup (are the couplers different on this??), how exploratory do I go for damage??? Should I disassemble the drive completely looking for twisted splines? What about the coupler? do the needle bearings in the u-joints get ugly from the impact load?

Thanks in advance for any advice. I'll call a few good drive shops later today. Right now the boat runs , could open the nose holes and throw the spare bravo on but feel I need to take a look as there could be some new fuses.

The drive should come apart to check for twisted splines other then that there isn't a whole lot more to get woried about. How fast were you going when it happened ?

I was cruising at 45ish, just trimmed in as I was 100 yds out from a friends dock (where I was headed)

You'd think the corp could take some of the $$ from selling juice and buy some markers, turns out this is a ridge about 50' long, about 75-100 yds out from shore (In front of coppermine lodge for the locals)

The boat following me got it to- and they were pulling kids on a tube- could've been ugly.

We put my XR gears into an Imco housing and I'm very pleased with the results. Picked up some water pressure, some speed, and it looks great. They come in black, satin, and polished. I went with black.

Steve
