Amsoil Products
Hey members, was wondering what your thoughts were on AMSOIL PRODUCTS????
|
Re: Amsoil Products
Good products. Not crazy about their marketing/sales structure. I think Mobil 1 products are just as good and more readily available.

Re: Amsoil Products
One simple word OVERPRICED..
Just my humble opinion |
Re: Amsoil Products
Does anyone know the specs on Volvo/Penta Oil FIlters? My marine did an oil change for me and used those instead of the HP Frmas I had provided.
From what I've read the Frams aren't very highly rated anyway--thoguhts/comments? I'm going to change to M-1's this week as soon as I get up the gumption to lay over the engines for an hour or two. |

Re: Amsoil Products
I cannot speak for there 4 stroke oils, but as an 2-stroke engine builder, I can say it is one of the worst oils I have seen.
You can ask almost world class engine guy and you WILL get the same response. Blue bearings and worn cylinder walls and rings. It is OK..... in a 200 hp motor that turns low ( sub 6000 ) rpm. But if you are building real power ( which requires RPM ) the stuff doesn't cut it. Look too Redline, Klotz, or my favorite Alisyn. RT |

Re: Amsoil Products
Oh, I should state....... I do run Amsoil in my sled, but NEVER in my Hi-per outboards. I run it in my sled because you can buy it everywhere.

Re: Amsoil Products
I still like the Amsoil 2-cycle oil called Sabre for lawn equiptment. You can go down as low as 1:100 for all applications but I have found 1:64 to be a bit too much...1:100 a bit too little and 1:80 perfect for 2-cycle snowblowers...weedwackers...etc.
The engine seems to start easier and run easy at full RPM. I was using Optimal which is a product made in W. Germany and it is not nearly as good but was better than conventional oils. |
Re: Amsoil Products
The merc prem plus for the 300x and the like is a fine oil, for the Hi-per oil they want you to use there Hi-per oil, it is nothing more than spectro golden.
In both cases you can improve. RT |
Re: Amsoil Products
FYI
RP 2-cycle is $5.00/qt in 55 gallon drums... |
Re: Amsoil Products
I personally have no experience with Royal Purple, but I know those that do...... run Amsoil first.
RT.... don't rule out Alisyn....... the stuff ROCKS |
Re: Amsoil Products
It would be fun to see Alisyn 20W-50 and 2-cycle oils sent to Blackstone...a virgin test is what we need to make an informed decision with.

Re: Amsoil Products
I use AMSOIL in my drives and Alysin in my motors. My guess is all the really good oils are similar in performance. It's the change intervals and use that make or break.

Re: Amsoil Products
I'm quite happy I started this thread, there seems to be some good info. I do run AMSOIL in my dirt bike and have had zero problems, was thinking about possibly running it in the drives, Seems a few of you like Mobil products also.

Re: Amsoil Products
I also was wondering about the marine gear lube????

At least with Redline you get a heftier ester content for the 9 bucks if you decide to spend that much.
Mobil-1 Extended Goldcap products are $ 5.45 in 5-qt containers at Wallyland as well. That's a good value. 20-50 motor oil 20w-50 motorcycle oil is $6.90 also motorcycle oil fyi |
Re: Amsoil Products
Having said all that... Amsoil 4-cycle oils are generally good and they get better as the price goes up. They range from $6.00 to nearly $10.00/qt. All are better than conventional products for certain. i don't see anything above $9.00 amsoil motor oils most were $8.75 and down with 25,000 drains. although ii would'nt go that long usually 15000 to 20000, when is the other companys drains mobil?????????????? :D |
Re: Amsoil Products
.....hold your horses..I edited my previous remarks too...I was off a buck..sorry :D ...and ... I have advocated using $7-$9/qt oil as I do regularly...and you do get an added benefit from the stuff too.

Re: Amsoil Products
If you guys really want the best try Swepco. We have been using now for over a year. less friction and wear on motors, hp increases and no engine problems. Nortech is using it exclusively on all their motors, no failures. It really is that good.

Re: Amsoil Products
did the prop spin test yesterday, had one with the the old 80-90 Amsoil and one with the new 75/80-90 Amsoil the diff is the old you might be able get 1 revolution ,with the new you can get almost 3 revs ,i know it's a little thinner but still seems to work as good as the thicker lube. :D:
