Hydrulic steering. Single V.S. double rams

My boat has a factory installed single ram Lathem system. I like the look of the duel ram. Whats involved in simply adding a second cylinder. Any disdvantage to adding the second? Why woiuldn't the factory just have used twin rams. Baja 25 Outlaw with HP 500 motor

You answered your own question there, don't get me wrong I'm not bagging on bajas they are great boats and an unreal alue, but that's just one of the places that they use to help keep the price down. You don't rely need twin clyinders either with that setup. There are certainly no disadvantages to it though, there is a little more then just adding another cylinder you will need some hoses and fittings but Latham probably has a conversion kit.

Until you get the boat to run faster single ram steering is sufficient, does it have a hydraulic helm, that is more important than the twin rams,Smitty

I upgraded my steering to dual rams earlier this year. As stated above the helm is a big issue. If you don't have a 120cc or larger helm it will take far too many turns to maneuver your boat around docks. (I learned the hard way) I didn't hit anything, but I sure looked like an amateur docking. Other than that obviously you need the ram, hoses and new fittings.
