Re: which outdrive for fountain ?
I'd go with a Bravo1 XR maybe with beefed up IMCO upper gear set. That should see you fine for a while.

the xr has imco gears in the upper or should I say the imco has xr gears!!!!! same set, but the imco housing is beefed up in all the right places although with the power that we are talking about its really not needed you a correct the xr should be more then enough!!!!

My opinion is that if you dont have enough power to knock the teeth off the standard gears, you are better off with out the XR. I know several boats running power, using the helical gears and they have no problems. It all depends on how you drive it and what kind of water you run in. I rode in a 27 Fountain this weekend that runs 90+ mph on gps and it is a stock bravo that is setup properly. We made at least 6 runs at that speed. Of course he does know it's limits, so it lives. The XR gears do have a shorter life expectancy, they make more heat and presure in the case. On NA motored boats I recommend an XZ or similar. I have combined parts to give the strength needed and proper set to make them live. Do you know what broke in your drive, and have you found the reason it broke. That will point you in the direction you need to go for a new drive. I have looked at several different combinations of parts from different suppliers and find that Merc makes some good parts that will work. Anyone can break any Bravo drive, but properly built and treated with respect you can still have fun with them.. If you want to discuss setup and options, give me a call in the evening before 9pm and I will be happy to talk.. Dick 616-335-8446 |
