Elec. Fuel Pump mounting
 
Re-powering my Checkmate 251GTX. Old 310hp 454 Broke a crank. Putting in a marinized 502 GenVI block with aluminum Edelbrock RPM heads (w/ the right valves) so I have to change to an Elec. Fuel pump. Just so happens that I have a marine Comp 140 from an old project. Looking for suggestions on where to mount it. I can put it low under the motor but this is deep in the bilge and subject to getting wet, but would be even with the bottom of the fuel tank. I could also mount up high next to the engine but then it will be above the fuel tank but safe from any bilge water. Your thoughts?

Mount it as LOW as reasonably possible.
I am plumbing in a complete, new fuel system right now on my boat. I mounted my Aeromotive pump on the bottom of the bilge, next to the stringer. It`s about as low as I could mount it.
Mounting it low keeps a supply of fuel at the pump, keeping it wet. Fuel is the coolant for the pump, it will last longer if not allowed to ever run dry.

Low and CLOSE to the fuel tank. They push fuel, and dont pull it well. You'll also need a regulator with that pump. Mount that near the carb and use a return line if possible. Also make sure you have a filter before the pump. Your fuel water separator will work fine for that.

I have the regulator that came with it and have it mounted already. I know keeping it low helps maintain prime. I am just looking to "Creative" mounting loacation. I can mount it low with no problem. I am just not sure how long it will last when it is down next to my bilge pump. I dont get a lot of water in the bilge, but it does get wet.

I had one of those mounted in my Corvette. It had to pull the fuel up about a foot. It ran fine. I have toyed with the idea of using a holley red pump to push the fuel thru all the fuel filter and tank selector valves and then dumping into a tank that the high pressure pump can draw off of. Here is a picture of what my existing fuel syatem looks like for carburator motors.
