trim tabs on 24' boat?

Have a 24' superboat and going to get a paint job this winter. I have trim tab mounts on the boat but the tabs are off because I don't have motors to run them. I purchased it this year and ran it all year without using them and was told to remove them all the way and make it a clean look on the back.

Sould I purchase two motors for the trim tabs or should I remove them. This a 24' boat with a 502 in it and I am happy with how it planes off. Only thing I can complain about is how I have to move the cooler around to get the boat to lean to one side. I am sure trim tabs would eliminate that.

Any suggestions?

I have a 24 Superboat too. I have 280 K-planes and couldn't imaging being without them. I don't normally need to use any tab to keep the boat level. The main advantage to the tabs is to keep a level attitude in rough water.

I find that my boat leans to the left when first coming on plane. After I give it a little trim it levels right out. The boat leans because of the prop torque. I have my battery and a box with anchor, tools, etc. on the star. side. That helps compensate for this issue.

What year is your boat? It takes some seat time to really get used to driving this boat.

I have some rather large friends and i am not large so i end up using them just to level boat off. I don,t need them to get on plane. Now my brother has a 24 pantera 454 W/ whipple awsome boat but needs tabs to get up. I would get them!

My superboat is a 1976 with new 502, drive, electrical, steering and everything else in 2003. The person I purchased the boat from didn't do the trim tabs, and paint so that is why I am asking about them now.

thanks for the help all

Jon, buy the pumps, you won't regret it! Especially on a narrow beam boat.

What if you powder coated the tabs the same colour as the hull to 'blend' them in better, if you really want a 'tidier' looking transom as you had mentioned.

I have a set of Kiekaffer 280 K planes that I took off a boat that I sold. They are in "like new" cond. and come complete with pumps and plumbing. Everything you need and priced right! Let me know if your interested.
