permit for hydrohoist
I purchased a hydrohoist because I didnt want to deal with the town for permits on davits or lift bolted to the dock. Do I need a permit for a hydrohoist. The DEC sent me a letter saying I do . Does anybody know it to be fact or is there a way around it?

Re: permit for hydrohoist
You'll be better off registering it as a "home made" boat or even a barge than going through the BS to get a permit. Slap numbers on the side of it and be done.

Re: permit for hydrohoist
If this is the NY State DEC then it is my understanding that if the structure is not permanent and not far enough from shore to be a navigation hazard, then no permit is required, and that it is that way statewide. However, I have never seen two DEC officers who could agree on the interpretation of a rule yet, much less different regional offices. I think those guys are all ex IRS auditors that weren't having enough fun making taxpayers miserable. --- Jer
