Installing a New Transom Assembly?
 

I purchased a new transom assembly - Volvo Sx. Should I attempt to install it on my own or should I have a volvo dealer do it? I assume that all you need to do is give it a good helping of 5200 and bolt it on but I've never done this before and really dont know. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Never done a volvo, but the Merc uses a gasket on the transom. I would not reccomend 5200. If you ever need to remove it, you'll probably splinter off a lot of gelcoat.
I use regular silicone with the merc gasket to fill in any imperfections, especially on an old transom.

So if its brand new and has the gasket then I should use no silicone?

With Merc TRS and speedmasters, they do not say to use silicone with their cork gaskets. I always had anyway and never had a problem.
Check with the volvo manual and see what it reccomends. You'll need to buy one for the torque specs anyway.

just use 3m 4200 instead of 5200 strong yet removeable, as for should the dealer do it thats up to you just keep in mind that:

1) it keeps water out
2) it hold the drive on
3) do you have the tools and equipment to do it


if your not sure let someone who has done it before do it
