could not shut down motor
Somebody explain what may have happened....
I genaded my bravo @5500, pulled back throttles and drive locked in gear at idle, i turned the key(ignition) off and the motor kept running at around 400 rpm and was loaded from the torque of the seized drive. It took about 20 sec before it shut down. Now runs fine with new drive except I hear a faint knocking sound almost like the timming is slightly off? Also, when i rev motor in nuetral real quick burst i get small pop through carb?? |

Re: could not shut down motor
When the drive blew could it have put so much torque back through the motor to spin the distributor a little? I'd put a timimg light on it. If that's ok It's got to be something electrical but I can't imagine how a blown drive could do that.

Maybe unrelated to the drive breaking and something went wrong right b4 drive exploded... |
Re: could not shut down motor
I would guess you have a messed up intake valve from it over reving. Do a compression test or better yet a leakdown test. That will tell you about where the problem might be.

JC... Sal came out today. Compression check all ok. Replaced one bad plug and problem fixed. Found three missing exhaust header bolts and tightened the others, think that was causing the rapping sound. Ill change out all plugs this week. Timming was fine.
I thought we might have to air lift Big Sal out of the bilge... he dont fit the way BO does. |
