Re: Anyone know how to winterize a SeaDoo Sportster?
I've got the service and owners manual for a 96 Explorer. Should be a similar engine. My notes above pretty much cover it, including antifreeze and fogging. Want me scan something?

I have not spent much time looking around in there.. not sure where the oil goes in for the pump. Are there an obvious drain and fill holes? GS, is the manual you might have for the Speedster or for a SeaDoo that uses the same motor. I will gladly take anything you want to send my way.. Re: Anyone know how to winterize a SeaDoo Sportster?
Is the explorer a sit down machine or a boat type.. I took a look in the engine compartment and there are hoses running everywhere. I tried to figure out what goes where, but they wrap them all over and it is hard to see. There are two hosed going to each cylinder head, one comes from the hose fitting on the back of the boat.
The pump looks like it is under the boat. There is a drive shaft that goes thru the hull with a rubber seal set up. I did find a grease fitting on the flywheel/coupler? But no place to put oil in it.. I guess I need a pic of two of whats where.. I will try and post some pics that may help the situation out.. I have owned outboards and I/O's but this is a strange animal without the road map.. Thanks Guys! Dick |

Ok.. now it is sorta makin sense... here are some pics.. I think I have the hose from the pump to motor figured out.. looks like the second hose from the head goes out the back through the garden hose fitting. And there is a line that goes to another garden hose fitting on top by the oil fill.. and one on the other side also..

Re: Anyone know how to winterize a SeaDoo Sportster?
Looking at the top of the engine, the hose on the left is connected to the two garden hose fittings.. I guess when you flush it, the water goes backward through the motor. The hose on the right side of the head goes down to the pump.. second pic by the muffler, lower hose.
So I fire this thing up.. with water to it, run it with the fuel stab and fog it.. Now how do I get antifreeze into it without getting it in to the ports?? Just pour it into the upper hole maybe?? While it is running? I think it would be easier with a couple of blown small blocks back there!! That would add some excitement!! |
Re: Anyone know how to winterize a SeaDoo Sportster?
it is not like a boat. You can run it with out water. The hose going to the head is the one you disconect and funnel some antifreeze in till you see it come out the pick up under the boat. The pump is outside behind the boat. When you kneel down and look into the pump you see a cone or bullet shaped piece in the middle. That is what the oil goes in. You remove the 4 bolts around it and diconnect the steering linkage and pull the snout off. Take the 3 bolts around the cone and it will fall off with oil in it. Look for water and shaving in there. wipe in out being careful for the o ring and put it back on with the fill screw on top. The seadoo oil container will have a flip top that will help in filling

Re: Anyone know how to winterize a SeaDoo Sportster?
Hey gsmith,
I heard that pulling that pump apart is a real pain and never seems to go back together without leaks?? Now I figure it might be a little difficult, but was told the tightening proceedure is tricky and the oring is usually shot?? How hard can it be?? My number is 616-335-8446 home and my cell is 616-403-1006.. If talking is easeier than typing.. Thanks Dick |
Re: Anyone know how to winterize a SeaDoo Sportster?
I have a question on a 2003 SeaDoo RXDI. Mine has a garden hose connection on the back of the transom - can you just hook up an anti-freeze bottle to it here and run it until anti-freeze comes out the side?? This would seem like a really easy way to do it if so.

Re: Anyone know how to winterize a SeaDoo Sportster?
Well I did the deal.. not sure it came out right. I poured anti freeze into the input hose and it came out the exhaust... hope I did it right..
The pump only took about a half a bottle in each one.. Gary said it would take more.. but I know it is full.. I did spin the motor over after I put the anti in... hope it didnt go into the motor.. Not sure if you can run the hose like you said and fill with anti or not.. This is new to me.. Dick |
