Hey guys! Some of you may remeber me having some overheating problems around Labor Day weekend. I had the boat looked at by the marina's mechanic. He told me the raw water pump and the t-stat needed replacing. So I had him do it. Still ran hot but cooled off very fast when I came off of the throttle. He then told me possibly the risers and intake needed to be replaced does this make sense. The last time I had it out and got up around 4500 r's the throttle cut out almost as if the engine shut down but it was still running. I am confused and just want to get this thing running tip top for next season. I am looking for someplace to repair/store/winterize/upgrade gauges & radio over the winter months. Any idea's....

You guys always seem to be a help....maybe I will enjoy her more next season.

It may not solve your problem but I would check the gaskets between the risers and manifolds anyway. It's cheap and easy.

It may be that the water passages are corroded up. Starting at the thermostat housing pull off the hoses and check to see if there is corrosion built up inside the passages. Do the same where the hoses go on to the exhaust manifolds and risers.

You should be able to drill them out if they are bad. Riser gaskets leaking may indicate that it is time for new exhaust as your mechanic suggested.

Had same problem. Check the hose that connects thru your gimbal its a small hose about a foot long. You'll see it if you raise your drive all the way up. You have to take it off to inspect. I can almost assure you that is it if you checked everything else. Look for corrosion on the end of the hose that ends inside the boat. That end is where the hose from the sea water pump coonects to. Water still will flow but at high RPM is when it starts starving. JUST DO IT TRUST ME!

I'd check the backside of the water cooler for any impeller pieces, being that a shop perfomed the task, I question if they went the extra mile to find any missing pieces.. You really gotta get in there to get them out of the cooler and lot's of back flushing, back flushing alone doesn't do much of anything, have to flush and probe as they really hold in there... just did two engines and had to get fragments out of each....

Could be as simple as that... then I'd go with what the others are suggesting here....
