Imco 1000

Any thoughts on the new Imco 1000 drive?

Looks great, kinda expensive at $35K per drive-line.
The gears look massive but the shafts look like they have weak spots with the smaller dia in them.
Hope they work out well, us power boaters need more Bravo alternatives.
Didn't understand what they meant by having an adjustable X height without unbolting anything???

35k? holy chit for a bravo replacement? you are in #6 or arneson territory (or less) for that kind of money...

Back4more,
where did you see the article on this drive? I have been talking to Imco about it for several months. It is suppose to be available in Feb.. last I heard.

They will only sell it as a package, hence the $35k price tag. I was told that includes the drive, standoff box with transmission, their HD transom assembly and full hydraulic steering and if I remember correctly their tilt wheel on the helm. So all in all, it is a lot of hardware for the money, but not just a bolt on swap for a Bravo.

I am interested in how this all works out.. Imco has been getting a lot of complaints on their stuff and the way they handle complaints.. Is this the answer, time will tell.

Article is in current HOT BOAT Magazine. Rated at 1000hp & 6 month limited warranty.

Re: Imco 1000

What horsepower level did IMCO rate their last Extreme Advantage SC? Was it something like 750hp or 850hp depending on the weight of the boat? And from what I read from guys here on OSO they still had what sounds like many failures---and the failures seem to have stemmed from even how IMCO may have assembled the drives because even with light power their Extreme SC only lasted a few hours with some guys. It sounded like the Merc XR drive was more dependable than the supposedly beefier IMCO Extreme SC with the same kind of power. I have read a lot of different situations/testimonials (pros & cons) concerning IMCO's Extreme SC vs the Bravo XR---enough not to feel confident in purchasing one of IMCO's drives. Now they have this new IMCO 1000 and I wonder how it will do.

The question is, is 150-200 of additional HP rating going to really make the difference with IMCO's new 1000 drive? I think that being able to raise/lower the "X" without removing anything is pretty trick. It looks to be an interesting drive and I hope it does well, but I guess we will see.

If you look at the pictures of the gears fpr what it is worth they are close to the design and size of the #6 gears.

I will sit back & wait to see what the outcome will be.

Re: Imco 1000

I received an E-mail back from Imco they say it is a direct bolt on replacement. At almost 36K I will wait and see. Thanks for the input.

Re: Imco 1000

By a bolt on swap, I meant you dont just switch the outdrive, the whole drive train back of the motor needs to be addressed.. It is a direct replacement, but you are replacing everything.
What does a #6 cost with transmission and steering and transom assembly? If I were to build a boat from scratch, I would consider it.. But like so many things.. time will tell.
