My Baja(32Force Express Cruiser) has the same setup. They made the 454Mags with alpha as said above They are 330hp only. I have 300hrs on mine with no problems. I have found that with the 19pitch cleavers slip some and takes some load off the drives. However I did put shimrick drive showers on to keep the outdrives from heating up. Boat runs 64GPS @4800wot I have taken many long trips and example one trip was 178 miles and we used 80 gallons of gas staying between 2800-3100rpm. Not to bad, So buy the boat that matches what you plan on doing with it. Speed=gofast boat
anything else=cruiser.I have an flatbottom Sanger so when I feel the need for speed it goes in the water for fun or race.
just my 2cents. Good luck

Re: What model drive? Alpha or Bravo

I have a 454 Mag Alpha in my 1987 Formula F-223LS. It has about 500 hours on the bottom end of the motor and about 250 on the Alpha Drive. The previous owner trashed the original drive by hitting a submerged tree in a lake. I don't do any holeshots and stay away from rough seas (as much as I can).

So far, I think the drive is holding up just fine. I have heard that as long as you don't put extreme stress on the drive (i.e. leave the water, or holeshots), it will last for years with regular maintenance.

Good Luck!
