Crane electronic distributor...anyone using these?
Just wondering if anyone has tried Crane's electronic distributor that allows you to choose from 36 programmed curves. Sounds like it may be a good choice for blower set ups and cams that require lots of initial timing for a smoother idle. Any input would be appreciated.

Re: Crane electronic distributor...anyone using these?
Crane did there homework when it comes to there ignition stuff. I know the pros are using what is "legal" for them to use in competition. You wouldn't be making a mistake by getting it. If you need more hard facts on the stuff, let me know. I have a friend that is a X Crane guy that now reps stuff and sells it and he could give you some "inside" facts.

Re: Crane electronic distributor...anyone using these?
Would be interested in talking to your friend about some specifics of the distributor set up. Would be really nice if the Crane adjustable module could be used in place place of TBIV module without a lot of trouble. The TBIV works great as we all know but those darn 20 and 22 degree modules are hard to come by and expensive!

Chris are they making a marine version?
What would be the differance between it and the MSD unit? Rob :D |
Re: Crane electronic distributor...anyone using these?
I am using the Crane marine ignition box that has different advance settings and haven't had any problems with it after the 60 hours I've put on the engine so far....
I'm using a distributer from an EFI engine to trigger it... The Crane has dial selectable advance and rev limiter settings. On the dyno the Crane system made the EXACT same power as an MSD 7 :evilb: Doug |
Re: Crane electronic distributor...anyone using these?

TC,
Call me 423 854 0007 and I will give you his number or email me: [email protected] Rob, I don't know if they have a marine unit out but I can check with my contact if you like. |
Re: Crane electronic distributor...anyone using these?
The Crane box will wire directly to the Merc TB4 or 5 distributor and has the advance curves built it along with rev limter settings.
Very nice setup. |
Re: Crane electronic distributor...anyone using these?
Crane is in the process of getting their Marine Dist. Certified for marine use. If interested I can keep you posted when it is ready. I have no idea on pricing but I'm sure it will be a nice piece to compliement their boxes.
