Repowering my

Okay, I have a volvo-penta stern drive. pretty straight forward, but the engine has been donkey punched a few times to many and it's gone ka-put. it's a naturally aspirated 5.0 chevy and
I have a replacement engine but it's a newer engine(computer, fuel injection ect.) like a 1997 tuned port injection. my question is can i get away with changing the heads and cam and put all the marine approved accesories on it?(alternator, starter) if anyone knows or might have some advise. Plz reply to this post :evilb:

Your talking about 5.0L GM engine and a (...?...) another GM engine? GM blocks will generally accomodate the swap over among comparable small blocks such as 5.0L and 5.7L.

Re: Repowering my war machine

The engine blocks are one and the same (5.0 lt.) except for the fact that they are different years 1979 n/a 305 converting to a TBI 305 from a 1997 camaro as the replacement.
I was wondering if anyone has done this type of repowering swap. and what problems they may have come across. I have a feeling that i'm out here on the edge alone here but i think this would be a more efficient way to go. little things bug me like will the o2 sensor still work? if anybody has any info, it would be appreciated

If your thinking of using the car control system (fuel inj and computer) in the boat that of course will never work. You would need a marine control system for fuel inj. The fuel parameters among other things are not compatible. You could check on a marine control sys to drive the O.E. injection sys.
The easiest thing would be just to dress the late model eng with the controls that the boat have and run it that way. A carbureted intake for those late model heads would have to be used.

Just use the long block of the new motor, sell everything else on e-bay. Or get rid of it all and put a 383 stroker in it.

If that 79 model boat is up to some power, then Dave's idea could net some bucks for funding the project. Sell both engines and get some ((( HP ))) :D :D :D
