high torque starter
whats a good source for a high torque marine starter ?

Re: high torque starter
Dont buy a high torque. Gear reduction my friend is the only way to go. I had a high torque in my 540 and was not happy. It was so bad the when I rebuilt my motor the engine guy changed the ring gear on the fly wheel.

Re: high torque starter
MES (Marine Electrical Supply) is a manufacturer that builds a great product and will sell to you direct. I have their # up in the shop and will post it if you can't find it with a simple search. And sorry Z, but MES builds both a standard duty AND a hi-torque version of their permanent magnet, gear reduction starter. The hi-torque version doesn't cost that much more and I would recommend that one. --- Jer

Re: high torque starter
thanks guys .Is there a difference in a gen 4 and gen 6 starter
|
Re: high torque starter
No. Bolt pattern on block will be the same. You just need to know the flywheel dia.. If engine set-up is stock, just give MES your eng. data and they will send you what you need/want. And by the way; that would be MARK IV or Gen 5 or 6 blocks. --- Jer
