gil offshore exhaust riser gaskets

Is it possible for this gasket to give you that I just popped two head gaskets feeling if the riser / manifold gasket goes bad . I thought no water went thru the gil manifold ./ riser connection . Just thru the hose .

Re: gil offshore exhaust riser gaskets

My Gils do NOT have water between the riser and manifold gasket (circa 1999). As you said, there are hoses which supply the water from the manifold to the riser. I would say NO. Could you have cracked a manifold and it is allowing water to mix with the exhaust early...Yes thus causing some blown head gasket symptoms.

Hope it helps and good luck!

Re: gil offshore exhaust riser gaskets

They crack very often. If they are the short sweep version ,and you have modified the motors. You could have a case of reversion.Pressure test them, they run dry to the ends.Pull center plugs on 1 bank see if you have water laying in them.
