Exhaust questions

If my boat doesnt sell, I plan on getting rid of my 3" log manifolds and going to some 4" gils or Emi's.

What is the purpose of having water dumps? You know, the excess water that comes from the exhaust system and dumps thru fittings on the transom? How does that work? Does it affect the sound somehow?

Re: Exhaust questions

A wet system, where water is admitted to the exhaust stream after the riser so you can use hose to make the connections to the transom tips doesnt need water dumps unless you want to limit the water in the exhaust for some reason.

A dry system, where the pipe is solid all the way throught the transom, needs to dump the water somewhere, usually at the end of the pipe or through a fitting in the transom. These are real loud and can be chore to get aligned. You can run a hotter cam with dry exhaust.

Re: Exhaust questions

You only need enough through the exhaust to keep the rubber water hoses from melting the rest goes to the dumps therefore keeping large amounts of water out of the exhaust giving you more horse power,I have 572.s with stelling exhaust an it works for me.
