I dont run a water temp thermostat but do run an oil temp thermostat. Cold water is good as long as the oil temp is 200

142 with Merc. circ. pump on my 548. Warms to operating temp. in less than 5 min. after cold start and never exceeds 145. I had trouble getting up to operating water temp. and never could get the oil up to 200 causing some milkshake under the valve covers with thermostat removed. And NO; I had no reversion or leakage issues; Just wasn't getting the oil warm enough to vaporize ever present moisture. --- Jer

I am running a 160 deg thermostat with two 1/8 holes drilled in it. I also have a Eddie marine bypass crossover eliminating the water circulator. I run a solid 150 on the gage until I come off plane, the gage goes up to about 180 for a few seconds and then goes back down to 150.
