Were the bent ones intake or exhaust?

They were both exhaust valve pushrods.

Was there any rust in the exhaust ports? Everytime I've had stuff like this happen it was water coming back after the engine is shut-off from a leaking riser gasket and the valve stem rusted.

YUP ! motor may have gotten hot , slightly had reversion, or gasket/manifold/riser failure. I've seen this on several motors. Usually freed up and worked fine with new pushrods. This happens to boats that sit along time too. BBB
