what would you rather have???

On a 1985 27 Excalibur with a stock 502 EFI which drive setup would you rather have:

1) TRS w/ BW trans model 10-17-016

or

2) Bravo

The Bravo's going to be faster, lighter and easier to get parts for.

Thats what I've been thinking. I got the motor, trans, gimble and everything else out of the bilge and I was thinking maybe I should just fill in the transom and do the conversion. But on the other hand everything with the current set up is working fine.

Best set-up is the Bravo, but I like the smooth shifting of the Borg-Warner.Too bad its not a 10-18 model w/ 2 more friction plates in FWD. and 1 more friction plate in REV.

If your later model Bravo is hard to shift, it could be the shift cable adjustment. It will probably never be as smooth as the BW, but it can get close.

Ok just for argument's sake and because i don't know.... why not a Konrad? wont that be easier and cheaper?

Re: what would you rather have???

Filling the transom and cutting a new hole is fairly inexpensive. I can get a used bravo and gimble for about 4k and sell the TRS stuff... so I think that would be less than half of what the konrad conversion is? Plus get rid of the tranny.

How about a Stellings extension box for the TRS to Bravo conversion?
We were heading down that road before we sold our 28' Cig.
I believe that there are other adapter plates too.
Filling the transom and re-cutting the hole sounds like a PIA to me...
