upgraded trim tabs, 25 OL etc... help??
I know i have posted alot about this specially in the victory tab area, however with whats going on with victory im really not sure. im curious if anyone has switched there insta-trims out for K-planes or dana's or anything alike? i could still possibly get the victory's, and they would probably be great, but im also thinking about some K-planes or some dana marine (maybe 1000's or something) trim tabs. would it be worth it? also im curious would a 24 or 30 inch tab be to long on a 25OL. just looking for opinions
also im curious is it really worth the money on a 25 OL with a 496 HO |

I'd assume you have the 12x11 insta-trims,they have a direct replacement 12x16 tab that you can use your existing cylinders and pump, the screw holes and everything line right up.The plates are cut at an angle just like K-planes,that is plenty of tab for a 25' Outlaw e-mail Brian at insta-trim he seems like a good guy you can order them directly through them I just got a set for my 33 Outlaw $393 shipped.

I'm looking to get the victory tabs. If that doesn't pan out now, which it may not, i'm going to design my own and have a local fab shop make me a set out of steel or aluminum.

Check out this thread....
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=120480 If you boat in rough water regularly, get a good set of heavy duty tabs. |
Re: upgraded trim tabs, 25 OL etc... help??
just looked at the insta-trim tabs 12x16, what do you all think, would these work ok, how would they compare to K-planes or dana's, i would love to have victory's however doesnt look like thats gonna happin as they are not doing business as of right now. plus you have to remount the brackets for the top part of the cylinders, which also means fixing the old screw holes. which requires glass work, not so sure i want to make this move, specially on a 25OL? any ideas, thoughts or imput?

Re: upgraded trim tabs, 25 OL etc... help??
I had a 25 and I think they will work just fine. I just bought a set for my 33 for a few reasons:
1. Direct retro fit 2. My boat does not go a 100 mph 3, Cost, didn't want to spend money for k-planes 4. Will work for my style of boating I guess it all depends on what kind of boating you do... |
Re: upgraded trim tabs, 25 OL etc... help??
You certainly don't need to be going 100MPH to benefit from a set of tabs. People seem to be too worried that bigger tabs are going to scrub off speed.
When I am trying to obtain my boat's absolute top speed, it is not in water conditions that require the use of tabs. I am using my tabs when I am in rough water, at speeds considerably slower than the boat's top speed. Do bigger tabs scrub speed? ABSOLUTLY I could say that they incease speed too. They allow me to run faster than I could run without them in rough water. |

One thing that I as well as a few of my friends have noticed about Baja's especially the Outlaws, they run fairly flat, that is why I don't really think you need 30 inches of tab hanging off the back. You'll notice a lot of manufactures don't put real big tabs on models until you get to the bigger stuff say 35 and up,some aren't even offered as an option.

The way my 27' Fountain runs at cruising speeds in the rough with a full load of people, i want more tab. Just being able to keep the bow down at lower speeds in the rough stuff makes a big difference for ride.
