Indicator cables

I'm looking to replace my morse red jacket indicator cables on my drives and trim tabs.Does any one know of where to get a good deal on these?I've been looking on some sites and it looks like morse was bought out by teleflex,is this true?Do they still offer the red jacket supreme?

Got to love these projects.

Thanks Nordic95

www.boatfix.com

Red Jackets aren't as good as TFXtremes, but they are kind of overkill for indicators-great for throttles and shifts.

Re: Indicator cables

yes they still ofer the 33c cables (red jacket )

Re: Indicator cables

I spoke to Fred (TRICK) a couple days ago and he was going to get those exact cables for me.....Check to see if he has ordered mine, maybe he can get yours in the same order????

Re: Indicator cables

I did order and received the teleflex standard cables,I thought they were the red jackets, but they are not.Would these be adequate for indicator cables? They are thinner then the red jackets and I'm worried they will flex and not seal in my thru transom fittings.

Re: Indicator cables

the thru hull compression fittings are designed for 33c cables so its hard to say if they will seal. teleflex does make a comparable cable but I dont remember the #

Re: Indicator cables

These are 33c teleflex cables, just not red jacket supreme like the ones that came out of the boat.I would feel better if I had the red jacket, but these are not returnable.Maybe I should bite the bullet and throw these in the garage and order the right ones.

Re: Indicator cables

For indicators the standard cables should be fine, there is very little strain on them as opposed to throttles or shifts. If they don't seal tight, add a little silicone at the thru hulls. The cables on my boat are standards, not the Red Jackets.

Re: Indicator cables

If they are the teleflex 33c then they should work. id mesure the shielding of the cable they maybe the same size black will look thinner then red...(just ask my wife black makes her look thinner)

Re: Indicator cables

O.k I think the cables I have will work if they worked on your boat.I do agree, now that I'm thinking about it that there is no real strain on them at all.I will save my money and buy a new black wardrobe for my wife, maybe two if it really make her look skinnier. :D :D :D

Re: Indicator cables

I got one from Livorsi for my trim indicator the other day and it was blue, I don't know if one type is better than the other but that must be what they recommend. I planned on putting some extra silicon in the fitting even if it does feel like a good seal.

What brand were they? I heard of some real good one's called Northwestern, or something like that.

Re: Indicator cables

Pretty sure it was a Teleflex cable. Not sure of the model number, I'll look at the box and shoot that over.

2 Attachment(s)
Here are the cables I received. They seem fine just a smaller jacket then the reds. The company I bought them from says that these will be just fine for indicators. It turns out they are a lot cheaper then the reds also. But I know the saying,"You get what you pay for".What are your thoughts?

Re: Indicator cables

They are standard 3300 style cables, likely the same thing that was on there new. Even quality manufacturers usually don't use Red Jacket Supremes on indicators because they are about double and overkill for indicators. If you are going to redo the controls use the best-either Red Jacket Supremes or TFXtremes-there is a huge difference in feel and control.

It's just a cable to move a plastic pointer. You're worrying too much. ;)
