Marine Specific Lifters?
I am curious if there is a lifter designed for marine use.
Or should I be asking if there are any manufacturers with a product that is more conducive to the marine environment. |
Re: Marine Specific Lifters?
no same as automotive....best is a good roller set up

Re: Marine Specific Lifters?
Hi Russ,
Thats a good question, but I am virtually sure that the answer is no. As I am sure you know, alot of us that run hydraulic rollers seem to like Morel lifters. Although I only have 1 season on them, I have them in my 540 without any issues. Dick ( MRGadgets) has had more than his share of lifter and cam problems. He was running a solid flat tappet that didnt last. I am not sure of what brand. He is giving Shubeck solid roller "X" lifters a try this year. Vinny |

The guy that probably has more knowledge on this particular subject than ANYONE is a member here. Why don't you you give RMBuilder a PM. Or maybe he will catch this and chime in. --- Jer

Re: Marine Specific Lifters?
RLW,
Over the last year we had the opportunity participate in an R& D project with the engineers at Morel in developing a Marine hi-performance hydraulic roller lifter. As a result morel has integrated design and materials from their Nascar Ultra Pro Series and Top fuel products into an upgraded captive link bar system for their marine hyd-roller series. The lifter has been both dyno tested and run in racing applications (in excess of 6000 RPM) with outstanding results showing reduced wear and increased durability with these upgrades. The resulting system worked so well, Morel has assigned the lifter its own part number and is continuing development on the marine specific lifter in both conventional and XLT (limited travel) designs. RM do you have a link to more info?????

Re: Marine Specific Lifters?
GOODT,
Morel is a tier 1 company and they do not have a commercial website. Having been involved in the development I can provide you with any specifications you may need. The design parameters for these lifters was to RPM @ 6000+ reliably, with the most aggressive inverse radius lobes available. Using their CNC controlled machining process, the ID tolerance is kept @ .0002", the OD .0005". This reduces pump up/ bleed down rates. The link bar system is (materials and design) a direct transfer from the Nascar/NHRA programs. I will have photos available soon. Bob |

Re: Marine Specific Lifters?
I swear by the Crane lifters....I put over 500 hrs. on the same set and the motors were stock HP 500's converted to 1071 blower motors and ran flawless. Just took them out and changed for peace of mind and they were perfect

Bob, Excuse my ignorance, but just what do you mean by a "Tier 1" company? Are these guys locked away in a development facility with no communications to the outside world? :D :D |

Re: Marine Specific Lifters?
Hi, new to this, I would like info and price on a set of hydr rollers, I have been running cranes for some time, havent had failure but offly close, specs, comp 935 spring instl 1.970", 175# seat , 475#@1.280" after break in. Crane cam, 264/272 with .400 lobe. current rpm5500-5700, heavy valve gear, stainless intake150g, alloy exhaust 130g, steel retainer and locks, crower ss rockers. Lifter valley spray bar, 150-200 hrs a season, poker run & fun boat.If water is right have run for extend wot, 30 miles. I think I am at limit of the crane's and am looking for a better hyd roll lifter. I have talked to the marine guy at crane about a larger lifter, he said they are playing with one for merc but still R&d. If this morrel is a better product I would like to try or at least look at. What brand do they sell under? Woul like to investigate a better lifter and possible lighting up valve gear, maybe run rpms to 6000. I belive I am directing ? to rpm/Bob, thanks gg10

3 Attachment(s)
As promised here are photos of the newly upgraded Morel Marine link bar/button. Morel is constantly transfering technology from their race programs to the entire product line and I would look forword to more significant developments in the coming months. The redesign is the second image.

What is the significant difference(s) between the Morel and the Crane roller lifter?
