New Boat, Set Up Opinions
I,m trying to get the new boat(34 DCB, Twin Teague 575) right for the summer, and I have a couple of rigging issues that I am questioning, tell me if I am thinking too much.
The first issue is with the drive cooling. The drives(Platinum, with nosecones) are being gone through by Dick, but I question whether they are getting enough internal cooling. The drives are on Imco boxes, are standard lowers with nose cones added, side pickups. Motor cooling comes from through hull pickups. I just don't see how enough water can get to the side pickups to cool the drives. The water is dumped through a fitting at the top of the drive. Does enough get there? The second issue is motor water pressure. The previous owner commented that the water pressure is only about 12psi. He asked Dave about this and Dave remarked it was OK if water temp not up. The system is through hull pickups, strainers, huge oil cooler, merc pump, crossover, no t-stat, stellings dry headers. Am I getting enough flow but not enough restriction? Motors seem to run very cold. |
