1000hp drives!!!

There's an on going dicussion in the Superboat section about drives that will work behind 1000+ hp. Keep in mind its a single engine 4000lb (give or take) V-hull and moving the engine forward for a tranny isn't ideal. Thought I would open the question up to some of the Guru's on the site and see what you guys think and what you would opt for?

Bmax- Has one year warranty for engines up to 950hp! No one else offers that.

Without a tranny...that's tough. Whatever you decide to go with: BUY 2. Then you will have a spare that you will need :D

Sad to say but ANY upgaraded drive that uses ANY xr gear is only going to work 50 hours or so give or take. I have a 950 hp/960 ft lb tq motor in a baja 272 single v with a max worx drive, the lower gears were trashed after about 60 hours of run time. I thought about the B-max but it still uses xr lower gears, they only have one tooth in contact so they chew them selves up on a regular basis. B-max is supposed to have a new heavier duty lower coming out which would make it the king of outdrives that can be run without a transmission but I heard it is a industrial lower not designed for bravo props,Smitty
I bought a complete Max Worx drive for a spare so I don't lose much boating time when drive does break but it is a pita hauling around a spare 10,000$ drive when I go far from home!

Arneson Surface Drive will hold it, the bam transmission goes in the transom box, so you shouldn't have any issues.

Call Rik at Arneson, he can give you all of the details (415)485-0788

Hi Rob,
The boat will weight about 4500lbs dry, so with gear and fuel closer to 5000...
I gave my opinion on the SB forum but I'll throw it out here again to see what other people think.
I believe you should use a drive with a tranny. There is plenty of room in the engine bay for the tranny and I don't think it will hurt the balance. Again I urge you to speak with Zuperboat (Mike); he has made the switch from Bravo to Speedmaster on his 30' Super...
If I were you I'd check into the new Imco with tranny. They are rated for 1000HP and use Bravo props.

I have a 30' Checkmate with a #6. We had an extension box made to house the transmission so the engine could stay mounted in a stock Bravo location. It's been an awesome combination.
