CMI Tailpipe Preferance
 

I have to decide which way to go, thru transom "wet " tailpipes with trim rings and gaskets or tailpipes that terminate in the boat and install Transom tips.The boat is my Python project and the transom has not been drilled yet.I was concerned about taking on water, if i go with the thru transom pipes .
The Transom tip style are known to have more reversion issues.Engine is a 540 Na. Cam is a Crane 741.Please tell me your experiences.

If you have much of a cam at all absolutely go through transom with the pipe. I've had through transom for years. No problem with water getting in. I just sealed the pipes around the cut-out. I recommend using anything other than 4200 or 5200. Those two are fantastic sealants, but not great when/if you ever need to remove the pipe. 5200 can take away fiberglass trying to get it loose. Use a sealant that's a little less permanent. You'll never have to buy exhaust hose and clamps again either.

I'd go with thru-hull all the way, no tips.
