Scan Tool ?
What kind of info can I get by having a mechanic to run a full scan and how can I verify what he is telling me is the wright results. Sounds funny of not trusting the mechanic, but this boat that i'm looking to buy is not in my locality and he might know the seller

Re: Scan Tool ?
some scan tools tell you the number of hours at various rpm... a good feel for how the motor has been treated... they all tell you the total hours on the motor and any diagnostic codes that the motors have generated. not a lot of meaningful info as far as im concerned relative to " purchaseability" . if the boat is expensive and you are paying commercial retail, then you really need to do a leak down, and a bore scope and , depending on your paranoia, an oil analysis. total hours while a meaningful bit of info do not tell you anyting about how it was used or maintained. 200 so some peoples hours are the same as 2000 of other peoples.

Re: Scan Tool ?
You should get a survey done. It may be required depending on your finance and insurance situation. The surveyor is working for YOU and should have YOUR best interests in mind.
The surveyor should have a scanner and be able to get the relavent info. Good Luck |
Re: Scan Tool ?
Have to agree with Dave although most surveyers dont have a scanner they can get it done and you will be able to trust the report
