You shouldn't have water pressure problems without a thermostat.

I've mostly seen them put on the sea strainer on an extra outlet fitting.

i put mine after raw water pump right before the crossover

Just after oil cooler.

I think best location is after oil and power steering coolers to ensure that they get full water flow at all times.

I'm after the oil cooler and before the PS cooler. It was the best location for my application.
