1999 Bravo One Drive Help
 

I have 1999 formula with two bravo one drives. While I was on the boat and moving forward everything was working fine one day. I went to full throttle to get the boat to plane off and after about 2 seconds I heard like a slip on one drive and it pretty much went into Neutral. I tried to get it to go into drive or reverse and nothing happed. I figured it was my cable. After opening up the two hatches I see that the cable is doing its job and its not the cable. Can someone tell me what it could be that I cannot get the boat to go into gear forward or reverse? I just dont undertand enough how the cluth and gear work and also the yoke. Please help??? Thank You.

could have spun your engine coupler teltale sign of this is the smell of burning rubber when you opened hatch if iyt is you are looking at a engine removal to fix

You probably broke a gear in outdrive I broke a gear in the upper gear set.

The engine works fine I just cant put the boat into gear while its on. When you say broke gear in the upper gear set what do you mean? Do I have to pull out the outdrive in orde to fix it?

If the input shaft is turning, not your coupler. The input shaft needs to turn for the drive to shift. If it is spinning while the motor is running and you see the linkage attached to the cable at the transfer plate, then either the cable in the drive is broken or the shift linkage inside the drive is broken.. If the floor of a gear broke, you should be able to find the other gear..

on the trailer put it in gear and try to turn the prop by hand , if it turns free then look at the coupler seen it a time or two.

Either an engine coupler, upper outdrive gear....or if you are extremely lucky...a prop hub (if they are not solid hubs).

cheapest = prop

middle = coupler (pull motor and install coupler on flywheel)

most expensive = ourdrive gears (pull drive and have rebuilt)

The coupler is bolted to the flywheel on the back of the motor. The driveshaft on the outsdive slides into that when installed on the boat and that in turn is what makes the outdrive turn. If you can look over the back of the engine and see if you see any rubber or smell rubber. Then look for aluminum shavings, very small ones. If you see nothing you must then do what others have posted. With the engine off put into gear and see if you can spin the prop both ways with alittle force. It will spin easy one way and should not the other. Then let us know what you got and we can get you to try other things. :D
