What size of socket for an Eagle H Beam Rod?

Guys I am at work and was going to purchase a new socket at lunch and I can not remember what size of cap screw is on the rod.
12 point 3/8?
Thanks
JIM

I believe you are correct on the size if you are using ARP 2000 series bolts. I would purchase one of good quality. Mine got quite of a workout during assembly. If you plan on plastigauging to check your clearances you could be torquing, re-torquing and possibly changing to undersize/oversize bearings which means even more torquing.

Don't forget to tighten the rod bolts up to the torque spec at leat 4-5 times to properly set the threads and pre-stretch on the bolts. This is the one problem most aftermarket rods can have after assembly, improper set up for final torque coupled with not properly checking bearing clearances and pin fit in the rods. If your going to spend dollars for good rods make sure you do the "right" job on checking and assembly! The socket size is the easiest but not the most important.

Re: What size of socket for an Eagle H Beam Rod?

So I will by a 1/2 and 3/8 12 point.
Actually the engine is assembled I was taking off some caps to make sure the bearings look fine. The mains are perfect. I found some shiny particals in my oil filter at the end of last season. I am hoping they were from the previoius spun bearing
No signs of metal in the pan or any where else so I am keeping my fingers crossed :D

7/16 is the winner!

Re: What size of socket for an Eagle H Beam Rod?

Mine are threaded through and not blind. If your are open, you need the special indicator. It has extensions to go into the end of the threaded hole to get to the end of the bolt. The measurement is then from the head to the end of the bolt. Mics wont work. The end of the bolt and the head has a center cut on it to position the indicator shafts.
