Tilt pin removal on speedmaster
Anyone know how to remove the tilt pivot pin on an early speedmaster transom assembly, I've removed the set screw, but don't know how to remove the pin. It's slotted, but is that just for alignment, I wondered if you had to remove with slide hammer?
Any ideas?????? |

My recollection is that yes, you need a slide hammer to pop out the pivots. The set screws line up with the grooves in the pivot if my memory is correct. Good luck!

I hope you know there are 2 pins that extend sideways through the hinge pin. The set screw pushes the 2 pins in a grove that holds the pin in place.
A slide hammer that ony partially screws into the hole will easily pull it. Dont screw it all the way in or it will push the 2 pins outward. |

Once it starts coming out, it will slide out. You can rotate it while you pull, but it does need to be. With the set pin removed, there is nothing holding the hinge pin in place (except corrosion, salt, and years of neglect). Don't forget to not screw the slide hammer in to far, otherwise it will start to push the set pins back into the groove.
If you go to Bam's website, you can see a schematic of the setup. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...81ST+DESIGN%29 Part numbers 3, 4, 17 & 18. The picture is not as clear as I remember it. Once you get it out, you will see it is a pretty simple deal. Good luck. |
