ECM relocation on a HP525

3 Attachment(s)
I have come upon an unexpected issue with my HP525 repower project.

The ecm is mounted on the back side of the motor and is now in the way of the power engine hatch rod

Is there a way of just relocating the ecm bracket?

Or is there something I can do to modify the power rod with joint/bracket to make it work with using less of an angle to avoid the ecm?

Help :(

What does your mount on the hatch side of your lift look like? I'm moving my rams to the transom wall and I was told it wouldn't work, that it would be a lot of extra stress on the mounts pushing them foward while lifting the hatch. They are currently up front but I like the cleaner look of them in the rear plus the added space of not having them in your way when you're working on the motor.

the connectors on the ecu are called " gm/packard weatherpak" . they can be purchased along with the pins at most hi end electronic supply houses or online at a million places... buy a couple and make up an " extension cord and put he ecu anywhere you want. not exactly like rewiring a lamp but straight forward enough for anyone with any electronic experience at all.

Here is a pic with it disconnected. I never thought of taking a "before" picture of the hatch.

I am not sure what you mean with the below:

"I'm moving my rams to the transom wall and I was told it wouldn't work, that it would be a lot of extra stress on the mounts pushing them foward while lifting the hatch"

Do you have a picture of your set up?

Thanks,

Jamal

From the looks of it could you move the ram straight up about 3-4" and remove the additional "sleeve" that is on the hatch? All that piece is for is when you loose power you can lift the hatch up enough to pull the pin and you can get the hatch open. If 3-4" higher would do it, why not.

Just another of my .02.

Stevesxm,

Would the " gm/packard weatherpak" allow you to move the ecu box including the metal bracket it is attached to?

How about the the relays facing the motor if I need more leverage space?

Thanks for the advise,

Jamal

Pwrbt33,

That is a good idea if it works.

I do not need to be able to lift the hatch if I loose power because I just did the below mod with my batteries.

I'll have to give it a try, maybe this mod along with relocating the ecm by itself might do the trick :D

Thanks,

Jamal

packard/weatherpak is the TYPE and brand of the connectors used on all the connections on the harness... you simply select the mate for yours, wire them up to whatever length you want and put the components anywhere you want. like i said... not hard but after you make and ruin a few its easy and any competant electronic tecnician can teach you everything there is to know about it in 20 minutes... its how you repair the harnesses when they fail. a worthwhile skill to have if you have an efi motor.
