Trim Tabs Up or Down ??
Why do some people store/trailer the boats with the trim tabs down?
|
Re: Trim Tabs Up or Down ??
I keep mine down to let the water drain off of them. Otherwise the water will pool up on the upper side of the tab.

Re: Trim Tabs Up or Down ??
Thats the only reason I know of too.

Re: Trim Tabs Up or Down ??
Well... The "Strip" answer would be: "Because some of us can get'em up and some can't!"
Seriously.... Water drain off is true and so particles don't adhear to the moving parts of the mech. indicators, hence, causing them to stick/freeze up. - Wouldn't suggest ever running them completely down, causing the indicators to fully extend (sometimes too far). Joe |
Re: Trim Tabs Up or Down ??
I would think with them up you would not have the cables and tab piston/ram extended which would be exposed to the weather or elements??? Wouldnt this be better??

Re: Trim Tabs Up or Down ??
I lower mine when I'm loading onto the trailer. When the boat is on & out of the water, I dry everything off & raise them back up.

I've never gave it a thought.

Me either though, I just did it because it was easy & sometimes I kick myself in the butt because I will forget to get the chamois wet before hand & the little pools on the tabs will be dry & I have to walk all the way back to the ramp to get the chamois wet. I did find that it is easier to put the boast on the trailer with the tabs down. Guess that little extra drag helps to slow things down a touch. |

Re: Trim Tabs Up or Down ??
I keep mine up in heated winter storage. When loading they are also up. Would not want to snag a tab. Any water will blow out when trailering down the road.
