I dont believe that the delco # is the same as merc's.. Although sometimes they do make the components for Merc.. I have also at times seen the delco box with Merc's label & part # only on it.. Be careful with some of the ignition stuff as some caps & rotors were not made by delco.. You can look it up on my web site.. We sell the OEM parts on line at discounted prices.. Jamie :)

I could be wrong.. But I dont believe that are owned by the same company... If some one knows for certain feel free to correct me.. :) ;) .. Some certain parts that they both use/sell may come from the same manufacturer/vendor..

For example neither one really "makes" the gimble bearings..

Re: Distributor Cap And Rotor ?

Just for the sake of saying the AC/DELCO parts look just as cheaply made as Standard or KEM. The rotor that i used is from KEM part # 1291 not sure what the DELCO # is. The dist cap AC/DELCO that i used is part # d303a. I wanted to use all AC/DELCO parts but when i compared AC/DELCO to KEM they looked exactly the same as far as quality. All in all the boat runs fine. Thanks for the feedback.

Sierra is owned by Echlin corp. the same company that owns Napa autoparts. I believe that Mercury marine is still a Brunswick company. Ed

Re: Distributor Cap And Rotor ?

The thing about these kinds or parts is that while Brunswick is parent to Mercury Marine, they probably don't actually manufacture those particular parts. Eichlin could well be building them for NAPA, Sierra, AND Brunswick, and doing so with slight differences to accommodate their individual customer's specs. Bottom line --- when in doubt, go with the OEM parts. --- Jer

There is a difference between Marine & automotive! What ever you buy make sure it looks exactly the same, gasket & venting. Marine starters, alternators and distributors all have spark suppression.

What's funny is the cap and rotor look exactly the same. I know what your talking about when it comes to marine parts. Maybe another question i have is that the cap didn't have a gasket?? Looked like original factory parts. The spark plugs that i just changed were original they still had the over spray on them when the engines were painted.
