Bravo 1 Speed Difference Between Painted or Natural Lower Foots

What do you think the speed difference would be on a Bravo 1 type foot ? Painted VS Natural ?

I know they say the natural as cast is faster but How much? 1 or 2 MPH say around 100MPH ???

Also I bet there no difference between the polished lower VS the Painted lower

What ya think

strip i was just thinking about this today myself.i read that natural lowers are 1 to 2 mph faster. i assume its from lack of surface tension from a rough surface. i was also thinking that a polished lower would also be slower than a natural (media or sand blasted finish) i just finished sanding the paint of my #3 lowers today, if i pick up a 1/2 mph it was worth the few hours it took. im gona buy a little hand sand blaster in the am and blast them for that even sand blasted look. all the 3s,5s, and 6s i see all have the natural lowers yet i never see natural bravo or xr lowers, was is that? i would think any drive would slip through the water better with less surface tension.

Rat like some race boats they epoxy the running surface at the rear and sand it with 600/800.When Bk was at Fountain he told me they use to wet sand the race boats with 600 ,made them faster.

I wonder if there is a differance between a shiny painted lower(like all Merc Bravos) and a polished lower????

Hey Strip,
I'll see BK at work today and I'll ask him about that sanding the boats with 600. He's got a 1000 stories! :D

Re: Speed Difference Between Painted or Natural Lower Foots

I have run polished, painted and natural lowers on my boat and found no difference in speed. The biggest factor for me was the manufacture of the lower. I have run stock Bravos, nosecones on Bravos, Imcos and B-maxs. Imcos were the fastest, nosecones 2nd, B-maxs, and the stock bravos.
