Oxygen sensor install

3 Attachment(s)
Hey guys check out this idea.I wanted to install sensors in my wet exhaust.I didn't want to add a spacer like other member here have done because of height restrictions.I had my welder drill an 1.5" hole thru the outer layer into the water passage and then fill hole with weld to create a sleeve. Then we drilled and tapped into the center of the weld the for the oxygen sensor. Now I can just use a plug to plug the hole when I'm done testing. When I make changes to the motor in the future the hole will always be there for future testing. Now I just have to get this thing running to see if it will work.

Thanks Nordic95

Nicely done. How much to do others?

Seems like a IDEAL location because it would read a balance of all the cylinders on that side,Crockett had me install mine on the bottom of my manifold on a individual runner about 3/4 inch from a exhaust port. He said it wasn't the best spot but it would be fine, what do you guys think? Smitty

Cobra,

I had a welder down the street from me do the work.He charged me 225.00 for both risers. He charges 75.00 per hour and that includes material. The only problem is that this is his first set and it took a little longer cause we had to figure on how to do it first. He also can not guaranty that the manifolds wont crack while he is welding them,Turns out these Revolutions Marines were no issue what so ever.PM me if you want him to do a set for you.

I finally got to fire one of my engines today and used my Innovate hand held O2 sensor with the wide band sensor mounted in my manifold.Worked like a charm to set up idle circuit.Next week I'll try water testing so I can get a full reading. This thing records 44 minutes of O2 readings and rpm readings and graphs them onto my laptop so I can see exactly what adjustments need to be done.I don't know how any one can set up a real world test without one.

You can't!!

Great job.

Smart thing to do . I can't see the pics so I can't comment on that.

Smitty - issue with your set up is that you have EFI (fuel source for each cylinder) and secondly, with it being so close you, with all that heat you may probably damage the wideband sensor quicker than normal.

how to do this on a stainless marine setup?

Nordic,

How did this end up working out for you? Any problems after a summer of use?

I was getting ready to make some spacer plates but this looks a lot more elegant. Are those aluminum risers?

thanks

They are aluminum and they worked out great so far.I have those manifolds for sale,I just installed a set of CMI today and had CMI weld in the bung when I ordered them.

That looks like a good location and clean job. I have the EMI exhaust with long stainless risers. I had bungs installed at the factory. They placed them in the same location as yours. I use Holley MPI kit and I can monitor the O2 on my laptop. I am thinking about getting a O2 gauge to mount on my dash since I have a open port.

Re: Oxygen sensor install

I emailed Dana Marine and for $195 they'll put O2 bungs on both risers. Looks like I only need one though. They said they'd have to weld them further downstream where they could weld from the inside too. I'm worried about water on the sensor if it's that far downstream

O2 Bung

I realize that this is a really old post but I'm curious if your having trouble keeping O2 sensors alive? I have a similar adapter in mine and have lost 2 O2 sensors.
Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

I believe the Innovate Motorsports Bung Extender would extend the life of your O2 Sensors. It's what I use.In cold water the condensation on the inside of the pipe can kill O2's or any amount of reversion will definitely do it as well

Thanks for the suggestion. I've heard good things about those extenders, particularly for protection from heat. I'll give it a try, I just need to figure out how to install it an angle so the water doesn't collect on the sensor.
